3 Points To Consider When Your Home Needs Siding Repairs

If the siding on your home was damaged in a storm, you may be wondering if repairs are possible or if your home should get new siding. The answer might depend on what your insurance company will pay for. If you'll be paying for the siding repair yourself, get advice from a siding contractor so you spend your money wisely. Here are some points to consider.

1. The Cost Of Siding Repairs

When the siding contractor examines your home, they may give you a quote for repairs and a quote for replacing the siding. This guides your decision since you may not want to spend a lot of money on repairs if your siding is old and will be replaced in a few years.

You could also discuss putting new siding on one side of your home only. When your home is damaged by a storm, the damage may be mostly on the side the wind was blowing against. If that's the case, your contractor may replace the siding on only one side, especially if the siding is fairly new.

2. The Ability To Match The New Siding

A point to consider is the new siding chosen for repairs may not match the old siding if your old siding has faded or if you can't find the exact color match. You probably don't want your home to have mismatched siding colors, so replacing siding on your entire house might be the best option even if it costs more. However, if you have siding that can be painted, painting your house to cover the mismatched colors could be an alternate solution.

If your home only needs a few siding boards replaced, the contractor might remove boards from the back of your house and move them to the damaged area so the part of your house seen from the street will have siding with a uniform color. The new boards can then be put in the back where they can't be seen.

3. The Type Of Siding You Have

Some types of siding can be repaired without having to replace the entire board or panel. Dents can be pulled out of aluminum siding, cracks and holes can be patched on vinyl siding, and damaged areas can often be repaired on wood siding.

Repairs can be time-consuming though, so repairing several damaged panels may not be practical. If only a few panels are damaged, repairs could be an option that saves you from the trouble of trying to match colors between new panels and old faded ones.
